Jennifer Lopez is one of my favorite performers of all time. I’ve been enjoying her movies, music, and dancing for decades. How has she managed to do them all consistently for so long?? She’s got to be one of the hardest-working people in Hollywood.
She’s been in some really fun and interesting movies starting in the early 90’s with titles like Selena, Jack, and Anaconda, but it’s been a while since she was in something that really resonated with me. Until now! Hustlers has become one of her best films to date, and it inspired me to look back at some of her best movies.
1. Hustlers
I had a chance to see Hustlers in theaters and it was fantastic! We’re not really used to seeing Jennifer in a role like this and it was amazing to watch. I loved Jennifer’s portrayal as a strong, sexy, and smart woman who takes care of the people she cares about. Of course there’s way more to the story than that and if you’ve seen it you already know what I’m talking about! When I first heard about this movie and saw the cast list, I was instantly excited for it. Because whether it was technically good or not I knew I’d enjoy it. And I did!
2. Selena
This is one of the few movies that I don’t like to watch all the way through because it still makes me cry. Jennifer was of course amazing in this movie that made me discover the lovely and talented singer Selena for the first time. This movie is so beautiful and still one of JLo’s top movies.
3. The Cell
I’m sure it’s an unpopular opinion, but I don’t think this movie doesn’t get nearly enough credit. It’s a terrifying yet beautifully shot movie about a psychologist who literally goes into the mind of a serial killer in order to help a detective (played by Vince Vaughn) find his latest victim before it’s too late. It’s very disturbing and and pretty hard to watch at times but the cinematography is amazing and it’s so, so good. Not only is it one of my favorite JLo movies, but also one of my favorite horror movies of all time!
4. The Wedding Planner
Who doesn’t love The Wedding Planner? It’s one of those cute and classic romcoms that I can watch over and over again. Jennifer and Matthew have such great chemistry in it, and it’s definitely one of her best movies.
5. The Back-Up Plan
Where The Wedding Planner is a classic romcom, The Backup Plan is one of my favorite modern romcoms from the last few years. It’s not as quaint as The Wedding Planner but it’s so funny and really plays up the themes of patience and trust.
6. Out of Sight
Some argue that Out of Sight is Jennifer’s best movie, and it’s indeed her highest rated, but I personally love the above films more. If you haven’t seen it, it’s about a criminal (played by George Clooney) and a federal marshal (played by Jennifer) playing a cat & mouse game and falling for each other despite being on opposite sides of the law. These two in a fun and sexy crime thriller together? Yes please.
7. Enough
I think we can all agree that JLo was totally badass in this movie. Watching her go through rigorous training and then beat the shit out of the man who abused her for years is so satisfying and still one of my favorite scenes of hers! I love the thriller aspect of this movie too.
8. Maid in Manhattan
Although it’s not my favorite romcom of hers, Maid in Manhattan is still on this list of one my favorite JLo movies! It’s a very cute political romcom (sounds odd to say) but I love that it was also about the struggle so many workers face when trying to advance within a company from the very bottom. In 2018 Jennifer apparently tried to recreate the magic of this movie when she starred in Second Act, which had a plot nearly identical to this movie…..but it wasn’t nearly as good.
9. Anaconda
Anaconda should probably be higher on the list in theory but I hate Jon Voight’s character so much in this movie that it can be very frustrating to watch. Besides that it’s a fun horror movie and definitely one of my favorites as far as animal attack movies go. Jennifer and Ice Cube worked so well together – I wish they would again!
10. Lila & Eve
Jennifer stars alongside Viola Davis in this vigilante justice action thriller about two women who seek revenge after their songs are killed due to gang violence. This is one of JLo’s lesser known movies, for sure. And although it’s not the best movie and certainly isn’t the best for either of them, I still liked it overall and I think it’s good to watch if you enjoy them both as actresses like I do.
Ok so I have to know, what is your favorite Jennifer Lopez movie?
