8 Must-Watch TV Shows to Binge If You Like ‘Bridgerton’

If you’re like me and got completely swept away by the lush, romantic world of Bridgerton, then you’re probably looking for similar shows to watch — especially while we wait for the rest of season 3 to drop. I’m a big fan of the diverse cast, modernized style, and steamy romantic drama of Brigerton, so I’ve put together a list with shows that feature some or all of those aspects.

More stuff to watch!

1. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story

If you’re a Bridgerton fan and haven’t watched Queen Charlotte yet, what are you waiting for? Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story dives into the early life of Queen Charlotte from the flagship series. The limited series stars Golda Rosheuvel, India Amarteifio, and Corey Mylchreest. It’s a beautiful and dramatic prequel that explores the queen’s rise to power and her love story. If you love the type of spice and angst of season 1 of Bridgerton, this show is obviously a must-watch.

2. Still Star Crossed (2017)

In case you still haven’t heard of it, this show is the original period drama produced by Shonda Rhimes in 2017. It aired on ABC and was canceled after one season (and on a cliffhanger at that). The plot continues the classic story of Romeo and Juliet after their tragic deaths. It stars Lashana Lynch, Wade Briggs, Torrance Coombs, and Sterling Sulieman. Set in Verona, the show is full of romance, drama, and political intrigue. If you enjoy the style of romantic tension and diverse casting of Bridgerton, you’ll find this series a lot of fun. But, as I mentioned, it does end on a cliffhanger so keep that in mind.

3. Sanditon (2019-2023)

Sanditon is based on Jane Austen’s unfinished novel and follows Charlotte Heywood’s adventures in the seaside town of Sanditon. Rose Williams, Theo James, and Crystal Clarke star in this period drama. Although Theo James left the show after the first season, taking some of the charisma of the show with him, I still recommend it if you are a big Brigerton fan since the romantic drama is a very similar style.

4. Outlander (2014-Present)

Outlander is a historical drama that follows Claire Randall, a WWII nurse who time-travels to 18th-century Scotland. Starring Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, the show blends romance, adventure, and historical events. If you like the more spicy and passionate aspects of Bridgerton, and you can appreciate good writing with lots of angst and drama, then Outlander is a perfect pick. It is very much an emotional rollercoaster though so brace yourself!

5. Poldark (2015-2019)

Poldark follows Ross Poldark, a British soldier returning home after the American Revolution. Aidan Turner stars alongside Eleanor Tomlinson. The series features romance, family drama, and stunning landscapes. Fans of Bridgerton will appreciate the passionate storylines and historical setting.

6. Dickinson (2019-2021)

Dickinson is a modern take on the life of poet Emily Dickinson. Hailee Steinfeld stars as Emily, with a cast including Jane Krakowski and Adrian Enscoe. The show mixes historical settings with contemporary dialogue and themes. “Bridgerton” fans will enjoy the unique storytelling and strong female lead.

7. The Great (2020-Present)

The Great is a satirical take on Catherine the Great’s rise to power in Russia. Elle Fanning stars as Catherine, with Nicholas Hoult as Emperor Peter III. The show combines humor, drama, and historical elements. If you enjoy the wit and humor of Bridgerton, The Great is a fun choice for you.

8. Reign (2013-2017)

Reign tells the story of Mary, Queen of Scots, during her time in France. Adelaide Kane stars as Mary, with Megan Follows, Torrance Coombs, and Toby Regbo. The show is full of political intrigue, romance, and court drama. It’s a great pick for Bridgerton fans who love the modernized style of writing and costume design.
