I don’t listen to podcasts very often, because I just don’t have the time. If I’m listening to something, it’s usually either music or a book. And to be honest, I’ve never been that big into radio shows or podcasts, because I find most hosts to be super annoying. But I do have a list of podcasts that I put on when I can, some way more than others. The ones I like best are just light and positive shows that I can listen to when I want a good laugh to feel inspired.
So today I’m putting together a list of some pop culture podcasts that I’m currently into!
EDIT: Updated this post to remove Chris Hardwick’s podcast. The replacement is much better anyway!
My favorite podcast! Thirst Aid Kit is a hilarious new podcast hosted by Bim Adewunmi and Nichole Perkins, where thirst over men in Hollywood. Each episode is usually dedicated to a specific person or theme, and they not only talk about what they find attractive, but also give commentary on related topics and issues. And sometimes they have guests on to give a different perspective. They even read fan fiction drabbles in each episode and host a weekly #ThirstyThursdayGIFParty on Twitter. Some of the guys they’ve featured so far include Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Michael B. Jordan, and John Cho. I love, LOVE fangirling out to this show. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, you should definitely give it a listen!
Phoebe Robinson and Jessica Williams host this podcast where they just chat about life and pop culture with a special guest. These two ladies are hilarious! If you like this podcast then you should also check out Phoebe Robinson’s other podcast, Sooo Many White Guys!
Ok so this one isn’t really a pop culture podcast in the same way as the others on this list, but I’m including it anyway. It’s actually a scripted dramedy series starring Kristen Wiig, Alia Shawkat, and Ethan Hawke, that centers on human interaction with voice assistant tech like Alexa and Siri. In it, a woman starts working as an operator for a company called Orbital Teledynamic in a call center that voices Sandra — a voice assistant that answers questions and places orders through a small black cube that people talk to (sound familiar?). The premise is pretty interesting and it feels a lot like an episode of Black Mirror. In fact, it was recently picked up to be made into a TV series so we could be seeing on our screens soon.
Anna Faris is Unqualified is Anna Faris’ podcast where she has guests on and they talk about relationships, career, and other seemingly random things. I love listening to her show sometimes because it’s like overhearing a random conversation between two of your friends. Anna has such a great sense of humor! I do wish there was more diversity in the guests she has on, but other than that it’s great to listen to.
On Thirty Twenty Ten, the hosts geek out about TV, movies, music, and video games from the 80s, 90s and 2000s by dedicating each episode to stuff from that same week, but from 30 years ago, 20 years ago and 10 years ago. It’s so fun to reminisce about pop culture from the past, especially the 90’s!
