It’s not too often that I see a movie with a ton of Easter Eggs in it — enough to where I wanna write an entire post about it. But this year there have already been two! First Ready Player One, which was full of pop culture references and appearances from various characters, and now Deadpool 2!
When I first saw Deadpool, I was a bit thrown off by it, I’m not gonna lie. I never read the comics and I just wasn’t mentally prepared for it, even after reading about it. I mean, I didn’t hate it or anything, it just took a little time for me to “get” it. But I loved it more and more every time I watched it, and I became a Deadpool fan.
Deadpool 2 is just like the first movie, in that it doesn’t take itself too seriously. At all. It’s full of jokes, references, and random stuff that make it so much fun to watch. It’s nearly impossible for me to name them all (and I know I missed some) so I’m just listing out my favorites here. As always, some of these aren’t necessarily Easter Eggs but I’m including them anyway! Spoiler alert, of course.
1. Title sequence
We already saw this in the marketing for the movie when they released a poster with bullets raining down on DP instead of water, as a refernce to Flashdance. Well the Bond-esque opening title sequence featured an animated version and it was awesome.
This is also the time when they play Celine Dion’s song Ashes from the Deadpool soundtrack. I’m still cracking over the music video!
2. MCU references
In the movie there are several references to the MCU — my favorite being the part where DP calls Cable “Thanos.” As you know, Josh Brolin plays Thanos in the MCU, most recently in Avengers: Infinity War. He also jokes, when he can’t use his powers, that he’s like “Hawkeye without the bow and arrow,” and calls Dopinder “Brown Panther” and Domino “black Black Widow.” 😄
3. Wolverine, Quicksilver, and other X-Men
But one of the FUNNIEST parts of the entire movie for me was the scene inside of the X-Mansion. DP always jokes about the fact that there are only a few X-Men characters in the movie, but this time there was a little surprise and a few more of them were briefly shown with cameos from the actual actors — Quicksilver (Evan Peters), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Professor X (James McAvoy), and Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) — implying that they’ve been hiding the entire time. That scene was gold. I’m always amazed at these kinds of cameos and how they’re able to get the actors to appear in the movie for just a few seconds. In that scene there’s also an appearance by Professor X’s chair, and later DP is shown wearing Cerebro. lol.
4. Say Anything
There’s a funny scene where Deadpool goes to get Colossus to forgive him, and he holds up a little speaker box on his phone like in Say Anything. Classic.
5. Brad Pitt + other cameos
You may not have caught it, but Brad Pitt actually makes an appearance in this movie as Vanisher! He is shown very briefly, but it was an awesome cameo. There are also cameos from Matt Damon, Terry Crews, Bill Skarsgård, Rob Delaney, and Lewis Tan. How badass was Domino, by the way? And Peter?! I loved the X-Force!
6. Stan Lee’s Cameo
Stan Lee appears very briefly in a list of prisoners kept in the Ice Box. I know it’s getting harder for him to appear in these movies so I really appreciate this Easter Egg!
7. Green Lantern / Ryan Reynolds
If you didn’t stay at the end of the credits, you missed a hilarious sequence of scenes where Deadpool “cleans up” the timeline, and that includes Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern. I mean, that scene speaks for itself, even triggering response from Warner Bros. demanding the Green Lantern ring back. 😂

8. 4th wall breaks
And to wrap it up I just wanted to include one of my favorite things about this movie. I love 4th wall breaks, where DP references something from real life or speaks directly to the audience. Hilarious.
Have you seen Deadpool 2? What were your favorite moments?
